About this event

What do our emotions have to do with holiness? Are our feelings something to control, overcome, or simply accept? Join us for a day exploring the Thomistic understanding of the passions — the emotions and movements of our human nature. We’ll discover why our emotions are not a distraction from the Christian life, but an important part of what it means to be human. And what better way to understand them than by looking to Christ himself? What did Jesus experience when he became angry, sorrowful, or joyful?

We’ll then explore how our passions relate to the moral life: while emotions in themselves are neither good nor bad, they can be trained and ordered towards what is truly good. Far from suppressing our emotions, Christian holiness involves bringing them into harmony with reason and virtue.

The day will include Mass, talks and workshops, prayer, fellowship and discussion, and lunch will be provided. There is no cost to attend, but registration is essential.
