Presenting: ‘Cinema Paradiso’ (2 hours 35 minutes, subtitles in English)

Cinema Paradiso is a 1988 coming-of-age comedy drama that has been credited as revitalizing the Italian film industry. Set in a small Sicilian town, the film centres on the friendship between a young boy and an aging projectionist who works at the titular movie theatre.

The film has been cited as one of the greatest films of all time and a world cinema classic. In 1989 it won the Academy award for Best Foreign Language Film, the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and eleven BAFTA awards which was a record for a foreign language film until this was broken by ‘All Quiet on the Western Front’ in 2023.
