About this event

‘You must choose whom and what you serve. Not to choose is itself a choice.’

Elizabethan England. A brutal reign of terror. Enemies of the State tortured and murdered. Spies. Surveillance. Paranoia.

Robert Southwell. Young radical genius. Saint. Best poet of his age. Shakespeare’s favourite. Recently captured by notorious priest-hunter Sir Richard Topcliffe. Cancelled. Erased from history by the Reformation. His most heinous crime? Being a Jesuit priest.

Censorship, religious bigotry, cancel culture and xenophobia. A play for today. Set in Elizabethan England.
